Days For Girls TESFA & Petros Network

Leaders: Jan Rasmussen and Lynn Northcutt

What if not having sanitary supplies meant DAYS without school? Days of isolation? Girls use leaves, mattress stuffng, newspaper, corn husks, rocks, anything they can find...but still miss up to 2 months of education and opportunity every year. It turns out this issue is a surprising but instrumental key to social change for women all over the world.

Supply List for Women’s Craft Nights for the Days For Girls/TESFA project:
Sewing machine, serger, scissors, measuring tape/sewing ruler, rotary cutter & mat, 100% polyester thread (Gutermann brand recommended.) It would be a good idea to mark your items. We will have a few things here, but we never no exactly how many are coming each month. If you don’t have supplies, come anyway. We will find you something to do.

Expecting the Best

Leader: Terri Eastburn

God is the giver of good gifts. We want to partner with Him and ensure that the "expecting moms" at Portland Christian Center are showered with His goodness in the form of prayer and meals. We'd love your help too. You can sign up to be praying for an expecting mom during her last trimester or take a meal when the baby arrives, or both. If you are the one expecting and have not been contacted by our ETB team, please send an email to Terri Eastburn at

Hats of Hope

These projects are ongoing, but we do a focus on each one at different times throughout the year. You are free to make any of the hats at anytime and drop them in the church office in a bag marked "Women's Ministries". Please make sure the adult hats are marked whether for Chemo Caps or Hats for the Homeless. You can use any pattern, but we have listed a few links below if you need some suggestions.

Preemie Project

Leader: Jan Rasmussen

If you love to knit or crochet, we need you! We are collecting hats for premature infants at Emanuel Hospital. This is an on-going project, and parents tell us it is a huge blessing.  Contact Jan Rasmussen at 503-638-9728 for more information.

Hats for the Homeless

Leader: Jan Rasmussen

Each winter Portland Christian Center recruits those who knit and/or crochet for a hat making project. These hats are taken to GHM Boutique where they are purchased by patrons for $5 each. These hats will then be donated back to the Gung Ho Ministries Coffee Cart along with the proceeds to purchase supplies for their coffee cart that is used two times a month to hand out sandwiches, coffee, pastries, socks and hats to the homeless under the Burnside Bridge. Contact Jan Rasmussen at 503-638-9728 for more information.

Chemo Caps for "No Hair Days"

Leader: Jan Rasmussen

When you're having a "no hair day", a nice, baby soft cap is the perfect accessory to warm your head and your heart. Join us in blessing those who are suffering through the effects of chemotherapy after a diagnosis of cancer to make their days a little brighter.

The best yarn choices are as follows:
CARON simply soft , Lion Brand Heartland Sincerely, BERNAT softy baby, LION BRAND baby soft, LION BRAND wool-ease, PURL ESSENCE everyday. The key is, they MUST be very soft, as cancer patients heads are very sensitive.

We will be keeping a small supply of hats here at the church if you would like to bless someone that you know is going through chemotherapy. Contact Terri Eastern at  to receive a Chemo Cap.
